LES SAINTES? – THE SAINTES!

Just to the South of Guadeloupe lies a lovely little cluster of French-Own islands named ‘The Saints’ and as usual us Coileys were just itching to try them out…

After a perfect day’s sail from Dominica’s ‘Prince Rupert bay’ (Portsmouth), we decided to nip into the Saints to check out the scenery and to stock up on food (Those French, those French. They have Quality food, those French).

So, we skittered between the islands until we reached ‘Anse du Bourg’ (the bay in front of the main town) where we anchored 100m away from a five-masted, cruise clipper – one beast of a boat, it was way bigger than any ship has any right to be.

The main attractions that we found out on the Terre-De-Haut were; an amazing snorkelling site just of the east headland of the island – It was just on a superbly steep shelf so that you had hundreds of tropical fish and coral on your right and the pitch-blackness of the deep on your right. Also, on the other side of the island, there was a perfect lagoon called ‘Baie de Pompierre’ where there was amazingly clear water and blindingly colourful coral.

And, of course, there were the Baguettes – Those French, those French. They have Quality food, those French…
